Being surrounded by Port Phillip Bay, Western Port and the Bass Strait, the Mornington Peninsula is blessed with a handful of sheltered and open-sea beaches boasting pristine clear waters and fine sandy shores. It is also home to diverse marine life, making it an ideal destination for snorkelling, diving, surfing, and dolphin watching. Below are some of the must-see beaches around the peninsula.

Sorrento Back Beach

Located 1.5km south of the township of Sorrento, the Sorrento Back Beach is popular among tourists because of the array of activities you can enjoy such as swimming, surfing, and exploring rockpools. They have a café and kiosk to cater for those who want to celebrate special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and other functions. The beach offers a stunning view of the coast which you can explore during a three kilometre guided historical walk, starting from the kiosk to the cliff tops of Diamond Bay.

Point Leo Beach

Known for its excellent beach waves, Point Leo Beach has become a popular choice among surfing enthusiasts. Both beginners and experienced surfers come to Point Leo to paddle and catch some waves. It is also a good spot for leisure activities, fishing, and summer camping.

Flinders Blowhole

The Flinders Blowhole track is not for the fainthearted, but if you are seeking a great sea side adventure, you will definitely enjoy the magnificent views and striking scenery that makes an awesome backdrop for your souvenir photos. Walking through the well-made track, you’ll pass by the Little Bird Rock and Elephant Rock before reaching the blowhole at the end. Large sea swells and waves can be dangerous here, so be extra careful.

Rye Ocean Beach

Another sought-after beach in Mornington Peninsula is Rye Ocean Beach. It is home to numerous reef breaks, making it a good spot for surfing.  Strong currents and large waves can be seen at this unpatrolled beach, so leisure swimming is not advised.

Rosebud Beach

If you’re looking for a laidback beach getaway with the family, Rosebud Beach is a good option. Featuring peaceful ocean space with calm crystal clear waters, Rosebud Beach is the perfect escape for swimming, kayaking, snorkelling, and sunbathing.
